Olin neli ja pool kuud Ungaris, suures 1,7 miljoni elanikuga Budapestis, endisaegse kuningriigi pealinnas,...ja liimisin saepurust, kivitolmust, mullast, puulehtedest ja okastest kokku väikese mehikese. Algul ma ei mõelnud sellele, kuid eesti mütoloogias on olendid, kes saavad elu pärast seda, kui inimene nad puust välja voolib või käepärastest vahenditest kokku sätib. Ühe taolise, kunagi soomeugri maailmas tuntud puusliku ja jumaluse järgi, sai minu mehike omale nimeks Peko. Kui Pekot hästi hoida, toob ta õnne, ning arvan, et sättisin ta okstest ja saepurust kokku seepärast, et suurlinnas midagi kodust igatsesin. Et Peko ellu ärkaks, aitasin tal linna peale uitama minna...
I was living for four and a half months in Budapest, which is a big city with 1.7 million people, the capital of the former Hungarian kingdom. Using saw- and stone dust, soil and leaves from the trees, I glued together a little man. In the beginning I was not thinking about this, but in Estonian mythology there are creatures, who come alive, when human’s cut them out from wood or put them together using different simple materials. This little man got his name, Peko, from a deity who was well known a long time ago in all the finno-ugric world. If you take care of him, Peko will bring luck. I think that I made him becauce after arriving in a big city, I was missing something homely. To give him life, I helped Peko to go discover the city...
