Pildil on kujutatud kahte vastaseleeride sõdurit. Sõda on läbi, rahumeelselt, kuid sõnatult ja ebaledes vaatavad nad üksteisele otsa. Kuidas koos edasi elada? Pärast verevalamist ja vaenu on raske midagi öelda, puuduvad sõnad mida oskaks kasutada. Kuid kusagilt peab alustama. Biennaali Eesti ekspositsiooni kuraator pelgas seda tööd Venemaal näidata, samuti põikles kõrvale mu performance'i ideest, kuid võtsin pildi siiski salaja kaasa ja teostasin performance iseseisvalt suures saalis, samal ajal ametliku avamisega.
Istusime ühe venelasega vaikides vastakuti, tema valas mulle kohalikku, mina talle kaasavõetud Lauaviina. Jõime sõnatult kokku.
The lithographic print "Speechless", made especially for the Biennale in Russia, depicts two soldiers from the opposing armys. The war is over, peacefully, but wordlessly and anxiously, they look at each other. How to live together? After bloodshed and hatred, it is difficult to say anything, there are no words to use. But you have to start somewhere.
The curator of Estonian exposition for the Biennale was afraid to exhibit my work in Russia and also evaded my performance idea.I still took my print with me and independently did the performance in the main hall of the biennale while the exhibition was officially being opened. Me and a Russian silently sat and faced each other. He poured me local Russian vodka and I poured him Estonian vodka that I had brought with me to Kaliningrad. We drank together in silence.
One of the soldier images is made with used a photograph of the Bronze Soldier, which is the informal name of a controversial World War II memorial, which was relocated away from the Tallinn city center by the Estonian goverment in 2007. This act led to a controversy between communities delineated as Baltic Russians and ethnic Estonians, as well as between the Russian Federation and Estonia. It peaked with two nights of riots in Tallinn and besieging of the Estonian embassy in Moscow for a week.
"Kaarel Kütase lito pealkiri „Ma armastan tööstusrajoone” ütleb enda eest kõik. Sama noor autor tegi ka performance’i festivali avamisel, juues laua taga koos kohaliku venelasega pudeli Eesti ning teise Kaliningradi viina, eksponeerides samal laual oma pronkssõduri-ainelist graafilist lehte. Minimalistlik performance toimis eelkõige kontrastina pikale ning ametlikke kõnesid täis avatseremooniale."
"The title of the lithograph by Kaarel Kütas "I love industrial districts" says everything about its content. The same young author also made a performance at the opening of the festival. Together with a local Russian, he drank one bottle of Estonian and another of Kaliningrad vodka, displaying a graphic page on the same table with the subject of a bronze soldier. Above all, the minimalistic performance served as a contrast to the long and official opening ceremony full of speeches."
